DiRECT - Digital skills for senior logistic staff

The aim of this project is to develop and implement an online/F2F training programme for older (50+) workers in logistics companies in the partner countries based on a comprehensive survey to identify their training needs in the field of digitalisation of logistics. This training programme will enable the target group to meet future requirements and help the company to retain employees for longer, which will also help to reduce the skills shortage.
Three innovative outcomes will be developed as part of the project. In addition, professional public relations activities will be carried out to ensure the dissemination and sustainability of the results. Three transnational meetings, events (multiplier events) in all six partners countries (Greece, Cyprus, Spain, Bulgaria & Poland) and a final conference will take place in Austria.
The following results will be available at the end of the project:
•    A competence map will be developed in the project partner countries, documenting the necessary knowledge of the target group of logistics employees 50+ in the field of digital logistics.
•    Online and classroom training materials for the area of digitalisation in logistics and an interactive online room for older logistics managers in the area of digital logistics.

VELOS - Optimizing Logistics with Backpressure Control Algorithms
The physical object of the VELOS project focuses on the design, development and demonstration in real conditions of an information system for small transport companies (regarding the staff). The main purpose of the information system is to allow the increase of the processing capacity of a small company (RMR), while at the same time keeping the operating costs under control and giving the possibility to offer new services with quality criteria. At the heart of the information system will be a routing-scheduling algorithm, based on the backpressure technique, which has been used extensively to optimize resource allocation to computer networks at the Ionian University. The relevant technique will be used to design and extend an algorithm suitable for solving optimization problems in the supply chain sector. This algorithm will be framed by two subsystems, a data collection-knowledge representation and a presentation of results and decision-making. The ultimate goal is to prove the possibility of upgrading the operation of RMR based on the proposed information system and to promote the utilization of the proposed methodology framework in general by small and medium companies in the sector through the actions of the Institute for Entrepreneurship Development.

Expected results
The main results of the proposed project, which are expected to add value to RMR and related companies, can be summarized as follows:

RMR will have an innovative information system for operating requirements analysis, resource allocation and decision optimization, which is expected to radically change its operating model. RMR hopes that with this capability it will adjust its internal structure, thus allowing the management of a larger volume of requests at a lower cost.
The use of this information system is expected to reduce daily operating costs, save resources, ensure the necessary economies of scale, which will allow RMR to proceed with long-term investments and expansions.
At the same time, it will be possible for RMR to improve the services offered, for example, by allowing it to provide specific response / transfer times, on-demand transfers with specific requirements and restrictions, etc. Therefore, RMR will seek to improve competitiveness. in an already expanding national and global marketplace, where optimal planning and response with reduced resource commitment requirements is essential.
RMR will be able to actively participate in a research synergy, acquiring know-how you did not have before. In fact, this know-how is expected to be a key springboard for corresponding future participations of the company in cooperatives and the investigation of the possibility for RMR to start its own research & development department in the future (initially based on synergies and then autonomous).
Overall, RMR will attempt to use the VELOS project as a basis for its transformation from a very small company to at least a small or medium-sized enterprise. In addition, utilizing the experience of the Ionian University. and IN.AN.EP., the project will examine and develop results in the following research challenges related to flow control algorithms in transmission networks of "generalized" goods:

Design, development and performance study of an innovative optimization algorithm (OEA) of itineraries-resource allocation-scheduling based on the backpressure technique, especially for applications of transport companies (Ionian University).
Extension of the basic backpressure algorithm, to transport applications that impose multi-parametric constraints, e.g. reduced energy consumption, deadlines, etc. This will provide flexibility and good adaptation response with dynamic and changing operating conditions (Ionian University).
Reduction of the computational complexity required for these transport optimization problems and scheduling, through the proposed algorithm (Ionian University).
Business models of commercially viable applications that take advantage of automatic flow control and backpressure algorithm in the field of freight transport and supply chain (IN.AN.EP.).

The last mile of delivery, which is the final leg of the journey from a distribution center to the customer's location, is often the most expensive and resource-intensive part of the delivery process. It can also have a significant environmental impact due to the large number of vehicles on the road and the emissions they produce.

Therefore, it is important to consider ways to minimize the environmental impact of last-mile logistics, such as using electric or hybrid vehicles, consolidating deliveries to reduce the number of routes, and adopting more efficient routing methods. In addition, the use of sustainable packaging and the reduction of unnecessary packaging also contribute to lowering the environmental footprint.

The ECOmile project will implement a variety of complementary activities. The partners will develop three educational outputs, which will be designed through field research, a best practices report, and the design of two digital interactive tools. To reach target groups and test the quality of their work, the partners will carry out pilot activities and dissemination events. To increase user engagement, the partners will also develop a dissemination strategy and communication tools.

The project targets workers involved in the last-mile delivery sector and aims to empower them with specific skills to ensure sustainable deliveries and cities.

To this end, the project will develop open and innovative e-learning materials, which will be accessible through an online platform. The ultimate goal of the project is to create a MOOC that will provide access to e-learning modules, evolving content, and a serious game.

VET providers will use these high-quality learning resources to train target groups (private and public logistics companies, policymakers in education and logistics, the research community, and the general public) in practical and innovative concepts related to sustainable last-mile logistics.

The main objectives of this educational program are:

  1. Raising awareness of the environmental impact of last-mile logistics: VET trainers will educate their learners on the importance of reducing the carbon footprint of last-mile deliveries and how this can be achieved through more efficient routing and the use of alternative-fuel vehicles.
  2. Promoting sustainable practices in logistics companies: VET trainers will promote sustainable practices to reduce environmental impacts, such as consolidating deliveries, reducing unnecessary packaging, and using sustainable packaging materials.
  3. Improving efficiency in last-mile logistics: VET trainers will raise awareness of the latest technologies and techniques that can be used to enhance the efficiency of last-mile logistics operations. This can help reduce costs while increasing delivery speed and reliability, ultimately leading to a more sustainable supply chain.
  4. Enhancing the skills and knowledge of logistics professionals: Training VET trainers on last-mile logistics sustainability can help strengthen the skills and knowledge of logistics professionals, making them more valuable to their organizations and more capable of driving sustainable change in the industry.

Support and reform of C95 trainer competence - Development of a uniform training package and certification process for C95 trainers - ProC95Trainer
2021-1-AT01-KA220-VET-000033160

In the European Union, due to EU Directive 2018/645, all professional drivers with vehicles over 3.5 t total weight and professional drivers with buses with more than eight seats must complete mandatory training on specified topics amounting to 35 hours every five years. After completing the further training measures, the professional driver receives a so-called C95 code entered in the driving license or the individual Member States receive their own C 95 identity card. For this reason, the further training measures are also referred to as C95 training. The same applies to any mandatory further training required of trainers. This results in very different levels of quality in the training of professional drivers in the individual Member States. Furthermore, the permeability of the labour market for C95 trainers is not given, as the different criteria make it possible to work in Member State A but not in Member State B. The current active trainers show that there is a high degree of mobility between Member States. Among the currently active trainers, findings from previous projects show that there are significant deficiencies in the area of didactic pedagogical skills. These previous projects have recorded the need, but have not developed products to meet the need. In addition, Covid Pandemie also showed that trainers' skills in using digital training tools to design long distance trainings are almost non-existent. Another area of need results from the fact that the topics of green thinking, sustainable business and digitalisation are hardly dealt with by the C95 trainers.
The need to increase the digital competences of C95 trainers to develop and deliver long distance training and to meet the requirements for C95 training after the Covid pandemic.

The implementation of this project is intended to define a uniform standardised framework for the necessary skills of C95 trainers. This should also serve as a recommendation for the authorities in the individual Member States and ensure uniformity of the requirements for the activity of a C95 trainer in all Member States in the future.
Through the planned development of an online testing platform, it will be possible after the implementation of the project to carry out a certification of C95 trainers and to renew this certification at regular intervals.

Results: Four innovative results will be produced as part of the C95trainer project. Each Result lead has the required expertise to direct the production of each result. The intended outcome of these results is to create freely-accessible materials to support more than 200 professional drivers’ trainers by equipping them with the knowledge, motivation, and tools to bring Europe closer to a more sustainable and harmonised educational material for the C95 trainings.
